GR:SO post-mortem

Posted in Articles,Music by Ziggy Friday May 12, 2017 at 06:05

Hey, Paul Spooner here, doing an animation post-mortem of the Good Robot: Space Opera AMV I made.

How it Began

The ground was laid for the project in mid-september 2013. Shamus Young had just started working on a 2d shmup game called Good Robot, and I was inspired to make a 3d model of the eponymous virtuous automaton. The model turned out pretty well, but besides a few renders I didn’t have anything to use it for.

A couple years later, it’s February 2016, and Good Robot is finally scheduled for release. I have the impulse to contribute to the marketing push by making some fanimation. (more…)

“There Is A Redeemer” alternate chorus

Posted in New Lyrics by Ziggy Wednesday January 13, 2016 at 11:40

The song “There is a Redeemer” was running through my head while driving to work, and I made up another chorus for it… Something like-a-this:
Thank you, O my Father,
for giving us your life
For blessings of food and cloth
for nation, children, church, and wife.

For reference, the “normal” chorus I’m familiar with goes like this:
Thank you, O my Father,
for giving us Your Son
and leaving Your Spirit ’til
the work on earth is done.

Both are good. I feel like we could do with less lyrical repetition in our songs, so this is a step forward in my book.

More piano improv

Made while we were down in California visiting in the summer of 2015.

The sounds in the background are my children playing with Duplo, wooden blocks, and toys with their grandma, my mother.

PS Cast: Work Ethic

Posted in Music,PSCast:S2 by Ziggy Friday July 4, 2014 at 19:57

Today I talk about Japan’s Work Ethic compared to the one in the US.

[Terrible Musical Intro]

Welcome to a rainy day Paul Spooner Podcast.

So I was thinking about the way that people have… [musical intro continues] Hmm, I may have to continue this another time.

So I’ve been considering how people in Japan have a different attitude toward work than people in America. (When I say “America” I mean the United States of America, but it’s easier to just say “America”, maybe I should just say “The US”) They have a different attitude toward work… not necessarily a better one, and I think that it’s easy to be like “Ohh, the Japanese have a BETTER attitude!” It’s better in ways, but it’s also worse in ways. PS Cast, Childrearing

Posted in Articles,Children,Music,PSCast:S1 by Ziggy Thursday June 26, 2014 at 02:43

A few short thoughts about… Hah! Nope. Couldn’t do it.

A huge jumbled ramble (Nearly fourty minutes worth) about training children.

Childrearing

[Strangely Baseline Intro, ends at 3:10]

Welcome back to the Paul Spooner Podcast!

Today I want to talk about something a little more personal. Children! Specifically, my children. (more…)

The PS Cast, Asynchronous Communication

Posted in Music,PSCast:S1 by Ziggy Wednesday June 25, 2014 at 01:03

A couple topics, about communication of all things!

Asynchronous Communication

[Same old musical intro]

I find it interesting how some people (and I don’t know if this is just “some people” or “almost all people except for me”) put things on the internet that they are intending only for their own private use. Like, someone will start a blog, and use it just to write things that they intend to keep to themselves. (more…)

The PS cast, Learning and Language

Posted in Articles,Music,PSCast:S1 by Ziggy Tuesday June 24, 2014 at 07:21

This episode is devoted to religion, philosophy, the meaning of life, the purpose of pain, and how you probably shouldn’t be listening to me ramble so much. Learning and Sloppy Language

Transcript below:

[Marginally Musical Intro]

I sometimes feel I’m protected from bad things. Or maybe I’ve just accepted things that other people think are bad? So I don’t need to experience them? This is getting really, meta, out there kind of, uh, philosophical religious, but… well here it goes! (more…)

The PS cast, Nested Feelings

Posted in Articles,Music,Podcasts,PSCast:S1 by Ziggy Sunday June 22, 2014 at 18:58

Wherin I talk about my feelings.

Nested Feelings specifically.

Transcript below:

[Marginally Musical Intro]

Do you ever get that feeling of an overhanging mass? Kind of like being underneath something? But it’s not claustrophobia. A combination of claustrophobia and acrophobia I guess. But it’s not necessarily fear! It’s more a thrill, an anticipation, a kind of joy! It’s this… (more…)

PS Podcast, Populace and Wealth

This is even more of a ramble than usual…

Populace and Wealth

Transcript below:

[Marginally Musical Intro]

That’s right folks, it’s the Paul Spooner Podcast!

The other day I was thinking about how different countries base their laws off of the “standard” population and not necessarily off of the whole population. For example, we pride ourselves in America (In A Marrrca!) we pride ourselves of being inclusive of minorities. We include minorities in the political process, we want to make everyone feel included…

But that’s not really true! We DO have to make our laws to serve someone, and generally those laws are made to serve the majority. (more…)
