Starship Log: 005

The 0-Gee wrenches aren’t holding up as well as I’d like. Had to chew out one of the engineers, he was probably drunk when he signed off on it. Got to get these guys to do their job.
Cathy tried to button-hole me at lunch again. Managed to “get a drink” and loose her. Maybe I can have my meals delivered to my quarters?
Weightlesness is starting to feel normal. More proficient at moving about now.
C.E. is is starting to run together; After a while it all kind of dissolves into drivel. I wonder if the editors all had the same taste, or if our culture is just that homogeneous. Need to return it soon anyhow.

Not much to record today. Really busy doing the 0-Gee checkout.
Looked out a lot at space today. The stars and the vast blackness is rather unsettling. It creeps up on you at odd moments, like a pool too deep to see the bottom. Shohs is even more unsettling. Glad to be back in my quarters.

Forgot to mention yesterday was the first day of weightlessness. Hard to get around, especially with the dumbed-down atmosphere. Pretty much like training though.
Pushed out of orbit today! First, was a flyby of Thin-Roost for our final external inspection. Now all that is behind us and the journey has really begun! No turning around now if we forgot something. Kind of a satisfying, cozy feeling.

Held in orbit for systems checkout. Should be on our way by tomorrow. Browsed C.E. for a bit after duties. A lot of good stuff in there; Some really stand out, “Why don’t you?” and “Ratiocity” in particular.
Engineering is talking about doing some jury-rig updates to the power distribution in flight. Just what we need, pre-kick changes that probably won’t be documented. If we’re lucky they won’t be able to agree on what needs to be done and the whole thing will be relegated to a stagnant RB.
Talked to Cathy from medical today at lunch. Kind of a chatterbox, but seems to know her stuff. So far the crew seems pretty competent; We’ll see once we reach EP-61-4.

Atmosphere exit went smoothly. Morale is high!
Asked the server for a second helping today at lunch; Its reply, “Sure thing boss… Tomorrow!” Those programmers must have had a blast with the contingency algorithms. Looking forward to finding more fun stuff like that. The locks should be interesting.
Cleaned up a coolant burst outside. Must have shaken loose during the exit. No damage, except the segment, but we’re digging into the spare parts already.

A Cover letter that I sent today
